Why ServiceTitan isn't built for your shop.

It is a great product. It is also the wrong product for 85% of the trade shops in this country — and the math is not close.

Let's get one thing out of the way: ServiceTitan is not a bad product. For a 200-truck plumbing business running a dispatch center with six people on headsets, it is quite possibly the best product on the market. The dispatching capability is deep. The call-booking scripts are sophisticated. The reporting is genuinely enterprise-grade.

None of that matters to your shop. If you run three, or five, or ten trucks, ServiceTitan is a Cadillac you are being asked to drive on a dirt road. The dirt road being: your actual business.

Start with the price. ServiceTitan does not publish pricing. You have to book a demo. You have to get a quote. The quote typically lands somewhere between $259 per user per month on the low end and — for a shop with any real feature needs — $2,500 a month or more in platform fees. Plus payment processing markup. Plus implementation fees, which run $3,500 to $15,000.

Then there is the contract. Annual commitments are the norm. Which means before you have run a single real dispatch through the system, you are on the hook for $30,000+ in software fees.

ServiceTitan is a Cadillac. You don't need a Cadillac to run a service truck route.

Every 5-truck shop owner, privately

Then the onboarding. ServiceTitan assigns you an implementation team. This is technically a feature — they will configure your pricebook, set up your workflows, integrate your accounting. In practice, it means your shop cannot go live for 6 to 12 weeks. Meanwhile you are still running the whiteboard.

Compare that to how the 1-to-25 tech shop actually thinks: "I want to stop missing follow-ups. I want my techs to capture signatures on phones. I want to send invoices that get paid. I want it to cost less than I spend on shop insurance per month. And I want to be using it by Friday."

That is the gap. ServiceTitan is not wrong — it is an enterprise product honestly priced for enterprise buyers. The error is trying to retrofit it onto the small shop. You will lose on price, you will lose on implementation time, and you will spend the next year trying to turn off features you did not need in the first place.
