01 / PROBLEMWHY SOFTWARE KEEPS FAILING ELECTRICAL
I
THE ELECTRICAL SHOP DILEMMA

Electrical is service
calls plus installs
plus permits.

You run a residential / light-commercial shop. Monday morning: a broken dryer outlet, three GFCI replacements, a ceiling-fan install, and a 200-amp panel upgrade rolling out on a flat-bed. Each one prices differently. The panel upgrade needs a permit pulled with the town, the install needs a rough-in and a trim visit, the service calls need a trip fee baked in.

ServiceTitan will quote you $2,500 a month and ask you to sign for a year. Housecall Pro and Jobber don't have a real permit-tracking field, don't handle a two-visit install (rough / trim) cleanly, and treat Good/Better/Best as an up-sell. The supply-house distributors push EC3 or similar, which is built for mega-shops with project managers and RFIs.

So you keep the permit log on a dry-erase board, the panel-upgrade quote in a Google Doc, the dispatch on a calendar printout, and the trip fees sometimes-charged depending on which tech ran the call. And the shop leaks $36,000 a year in unbilled trip fees, permit fees passed through without markup, and install quotes that lost to a faster bid.

FOUR CORE MODULES

The whole
electrical shop loop.
Nothing extra.

01MODULE · DISPATCH

Service calls and install crews on one board.

Drag-and-drop by tech, by day, by week. Service calls get color-coded blue, installs get orange, emergencies red. Install jobs can span multiple visits — rough-in Monday, trim Friday — linked to the same job record. Live GPS overlay. One-click SMS dispatch with address and Google Maps link.

  • Multi-visit install jobs
  • Service vs install color-coding
  • Live truck GPS
02MODULE · ESTIMATES

Panel upgrades and EV chargers in three tiers.

Build Good/Better/Best proposals for a 200A panel upgrade, an EV-charger install, a whole-house surge protector. Materials priced from the supply-house pricebook, labor priced by the hour or flat-rate. Customer sees all three on one page, signs on a tablet. Convert approved estimate into a scheduled rough-in with one click.

  • Supply-house pricebook import
  • Tiered panel / EV presentation
  • Auto-convert to install job
03MODULE · PERMITS & INVOICING

Permits tracked. Trip fees billed. Every time.

Each job carries a permit number, a jurisdiction, an issue date, and an inspection status. The invoice auto-generates from completed job time + materials + trip fee + permit pass-through (with your markup). Stripe payment link in every email. QuickBooks Online sync. Inspections that passed or failed are logged on the job timeline.

  • Permit # + jurisdiction + status
  • Auto trip-fee + permit markup
  • QBO two-way sync
04MODULE · MEMBERSHIPS

Whole-home plans that build recurring revenue.

Launch whole-home electrical maintenance plans — annual panel inspection, smoke-alarm checks, member pricing on service calls. Recurring Stripe billing. Member badge on every call. Renewal reminders 30 days out. Predictable revenue between the big install quarters.

  • Stripe Subscriptions · monthly or annual
  • Annual inspection auto-book
  • Member pricing on pricebook

We were losing panel upgrades because our quotes took three days. On TradeFix we can build a tiered 200A proposal in 15 minutes and email it before the customer leaves for work. Close rate on panels jumped from 32% to 58% inside the first quarter.

03 / FAQELECTRICAL SHOP QUESTIONS

The questions
every electrical owner asks.

Does TradeFix handle multi-visit install jobs — rough-in and trim?

Yes. A job in TradeFix can span multiple scheduled visits — rough-in Monday, inspection Wednesday, trim Friday — all tied to the same job record. The dispatch board shows each visit as its own card, colored by status. Time logged against each visit rolls up to the job's actual_start / actual_end for billing. Inspection results get logged on the job timeline along with permit status.

Can I track permits per job — number, jurisdiction, inspection status?

Each job has a permit block — permit number, issuing jurisdiction, issue date, expiration, inspection pass/fail, inspector name. A permit is required flag blocks the job from being marked complete until the inspection status is set. Permit pass-through costs get added to the invoice with your markup (or not — you decide per-job). Expiring permits show up on the dashboard 14 days out.

What about Good/Better/Best estimates for panel upgrades and EV chargers?

Tiered estimates are a core feature. Build a proposal with three options — 100A panel base upgrade, 200A mid-range with surge protector, 200A premium with whole-home protection + Level 2 EV charger rough-in. One page, three options, the customer signs. Tier data from ServiceTitan and Nexstar puts tiered panel-upgrade close rates 20–40% higher than single-quote close rates. Same pattern, twenty-fifth of the price.

How do trip fees work for service calls?

Trip fees are a pricebook item — you set the amount ($79, $95, $129 — whatever your shop charges). When a service call is dispatched, the trip fee auto-attaches to the invoice draft. The tech can waive it for members (member pricing tier zeros it out) or add it back in if policy allows. Result: every service call that should have had a trip fee billed actually has one.

Does it work for both residential and light commercial?

Yes — mixed residential / light commercial is exactly the target profile. Customers can have multiple service addresses. Invoices carry optional P.O. number and billing-contact fields for commercial work. Pricebook supports commercial pricing tiers separate from residential. If you run a dedicated commercial operation with GC contracts, prevailing-wage compliance, and RFIs, we will not pretend to replace a true project-management platform yet — but for small residential-heavy / light-commercial shops, TradeFix fits.

Will my electrical pricebook import from a supply-house catalog?

Yes. Export your current pricebook as CSV — from your previous platform, from a supply-house catalog, from your own spreadsheet — and import it into TradeFix. Common column formats (SKU, description, category, unit price, unit, taxable) auto-map. Labor lines and materials live in the same pricebook but are tagged by type so your estimates separate them correctly. We also ship a starter electrical pricebook of ~280 items — labor rates, common services, panel-upgrade components, EV-charger installs — as a starting point.

Does the mobile app work for my techs on residential service calls?

Yes. The Expo-based iOS and Android app gives techs the day's jobs with customer info, address (tap to open Maps), job notes, and the pricebook. Techs update status (en route, on site, completed), capture photos of the panel before and after, collect an e-signature on the glass, and can take card payment via Stripe on the spot. Works offline — caches jobs and pricebook, syncs when back in coverage.
